NEW DELHI: India, the reigning T20 World Cup champions, achieved new milestones with their batting performance on a record-setting day. Choosing to bat first, India posted an impressive 297/6 against Bangladesh at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
This score marks India’s highest team total in T20Is and stands as the second-highest score in men’s T20I history.It surpasses previous records held by Afghanistan (278/3), England (267/3), and Australia (263/3).
India’s prior highest score in men’s T20Is was 260/5 against Sri Lanka in 2017. That match also featured Rohit Sharma‘s remarkable 35-ball century, the fastest by an Indian male player in T20Is.
Nepal set the highest-ever total in men’s T20Is with 314/3 against Mongolia during the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year.
Sanju Samson was the standout performer with a remarkable 111 off 47 balls, marking his first T20I century in just 40 balls. This feat makes him the second-fastest Indian batter to score a T20I century, behind only Rohit Sharma.
Samson’s innings included 11 fours and eight sixes, making him the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a T20I century. He, along with captain Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 75 off 35 balls, ensured India achieved their joint-highest power-play score in T20Is, totaling 83.
